Up to 25 electric taxis already circulate in Madrid with the forecast of reaching 110 from the company La Ciudad del Taxi and in collaboration with Nissan, an initiative that is distinguished, also for being zero-emission vehicles, because the drivers are uniformed and there is wifi inside the car.
The mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, and the Environment and Mobility delegate, Inés Sabanés, attended the presentation of this fleet.
The vehicle selected is the Nissan LEAF 30 kWh, a one hundred percent electric model and considered the best-selling in the world within its characteristics. The event was attended by the CEO of Nissan Iberia, Marco Toro, and the director of La Ciudad del Taxi, Jesús Ramos.
SOVEREIGNTY OF NATURE
Carmena has called for sustainable mobility, which requires "an effort of imagination and management capacity." "We have to keep the world better than how we found it," he defended.
In his speech, he argued that cities "have to surrender sovereignty to nature, ensure that citizens get along with citizens".
The new vehicle has a range of 250 kilometers on a single charge and can recharge 80 percent of the battery in 30 minutes, allowing it to meet the mobility demand of this sector.
The Madrid City Council considers that the taxi sector is key to reducing the environmental impacts of mobility in the capital.
LOW EMISSION TAXI
The City Council has approved this year a subsidy of 279,000 euros for the purchase of low-emission taxis (electric, hybrid and CNG) and for the purchase of Eurotaxi / Ecotaxi vehicles.
In Madrid, the fleet of low-emission taxis (electric, hybrids and gas) represents 35 percent of the total current fleet, about 5,400 vehicles.
Marco Toro has defended that electric cars suppose less pollution, less noise and less costs for the pocket of the users, specifically 2,000 euros for an individual and 4,500 euros per year for a taxi driver. Compared to other vehicles, it avoids the emission of 2,250 kilos of CO2 and 0.75 kg of NOx per year in cities.
This benefit reaches 9,000 kg of CO2 / year and 3 kg of NOx per vehicle in the case of taxis since they have an estimated mobility much higher than that of other private vehicles.
Madrid City Council has 24 recharging points on public roads regulated by two charging management companies (IBIL and GIC) in accordance with the requirements of national legislation for the provision of this service.
The city has another 147 charging points in public car parks, in addition to those available in other publicly accessible places such as shopping centers or private car parks.
The location of the points can be found on the web www.movilidadelectricamadrid.es. They have no cost for the City Council since the connections and electricity costs are paid by the managers, as established by law.
These points, located on public roads, are designed to offer an opportunity recharge, in specific cases or in emergencies.
In general, it is the users of these vehicles who must have a regular recharging point at their origin (home) or destination (parking linked to the workplace, for example).
The City Council is developing a fast recharge network, of public access, to complement the linked / habitual recharge of each user. This network is a suitable option in monitored environments and is part of air quality plans and strategies.
Other municipal advantages that recognize the use of this type of vehicle are free parking without time limitation in green and blue spaces in the Regulated Parking Service (SER), after obtaining the Zero Emissions Authorization (free); the 75 percent discount in the tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles (IVTM) from the first year and indefinitely or free access to the Residential Priority Areas (APR) with authorization 0 emissions.
Also the exemption of traffic restriction measures in episodes of high pollution.
Since 2008, the fleet of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) has twenty electric minibuses on two lines. In addition, since 2012 it has 23 hybrid compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric buses (13 plug-in and 10 rechargeable). This year the electric motorcycles planned for the corps of mobility agents will be acquired.
